There are 3 generations of eye laser technologies

The last and third generation of eye laser technology is the ReLEx-Smile method:

The ReLEx-Smile method is a safe and minimally invasive laser eye surgery method. The VisuMax laser from the German brand "Zeiss" is a precise laser that only minimally loads the corneal tissue.

The ReLEX smile procedure is performed on an outpatient basis. The eyes are anesthetized with eye drops before the procedure and the procedure itself takes only a few minutes per eye.

The big advantage of the ReLEX smile procedure is that no so-called 'flap' (corneal lid) is created. Instead, the femtosecond laser acts within the cornea, modeling a tissue lens (lenticle) to achieve the desired correction. Modeling the lenticle takes only 25 seconds. The tissue lens is then loosened from the cornea by a cut of only 3 mm minimum and then pulled out with tweezers. Thus, the natural structure of the cornea is not attacked and the risk of possible infections during the procedure is reduced to a minimum. Another advantage is a much faster recovery and adaptation of your newly gained visual acuity.

The 2nd generation of eye laser method: INTRALASIK = iLASIK

LASIK: Corneal flap formation with femtolaser. Means treatment of refractive errors (myopia, hypermetropia, astigmatism) with the excimer laser.

In terms of content, the INTRALASIK procedure is the flap formation phase. This is done with a mechanical keratome (knife) or with a surface treatment in which the corneal surface is opened. (Since 2010, our clinic Talya Tıp Merkezi has not used mechanical keratoms.)

IN THE INDIVIDUAL LASIK TREATMENT METHOD: iLASIK Nowadays the current laser technology is performed without a knife, i. H. the so-called femtosecond laser technology, which is a combination of the individual wave front measurement and the eye recognition system.

The 1st generation of the eye laser method: PRK and LASEK

PRK: Photo-Refractive Keratectomy; are the initial letters of the method, which is based on the stripping of the epithelium of the cornea to model the cornea. The PRK method no Flap are formed. In the PRK method, the superficial epithelial layer of the cornea is stripped off, with the excimer laser Deficiencies d. H. performed the correction treatment of the visual defect and used to protect a contact lens.

LASEK: laser epithelial keratomileusus; means that a flap formation from the epithelium of the cornea and then the formation of the cornea. Lasek; is a procedure between Lasik and PRK. Also with the Lasek method a flap is formed. Lasek flap, is formed by manual application of alcohol, on the epithelium of the corneal surface.

The cornea is reshaped with the excimer laser. After the laser treatment, the flap is spread back into place and with the protection of a contact lens, the healing process is awaited.
